The History Of Beagle

The Beagle is considered one of the oldest breeds in history and perhaps one of the closest original breeds of hound. While the true origins of the breed are lost to antiquity, the Beagle came into prominence during the days of King Henry VII of England. The breed's popularity further increased during the reign of his daughter, Elizabeth I. It was the custom in those days for the hunting parties to take the dogs to the fields in baskets attached to the saddles of their horses.

Bred and developed primarily for rabbit hunting, the little Beagle has proven itself on practically every species of upland game, even to the pheasant. The famous colored engraving of "The Merry Bealers" is familiar to American as well as English sportsmen.

During the late 1800's the National Beagle Club was formed in the United States. Its purpose was to set the standard and work for the betterment of this popular little hunter. While thousands of hunters use the dog individually in their sport, there are numerous Beagle Packs throughout the country. These packs are all hunted in the legitimate manner with a regular hunt staff, in hunt liveries, with their own distinctive colors.

The Beagle is commonly bred in two sizes, fifteen inches and under, and thirteen inches and under. Any hound color is acceptable. The breed has a quality of durability combined with a cheerful daintiness, which make it a favorite of children and adults alike.

Coin Collecting

Coin collecting is alot of fun. One good way of getting started is collecting all the state quarters that is really fun also. You can also get date books like for say a 1997 penny book it comes with slots you can put pennys in it, it says what date and ment on the slot so you can know what penny to put in it you can also put nickels, dimes, half dollars, dollars and silver dollars. You would also need a coin book to tell you how much your coins are worth, they normally come out with a new one every year.It is really fun to do, you also may have a coin shop that will have coins you can go and look at and buy coins from it. Also another good place to get coins from is eBay but you really really have to be careful on what you buy look them over alot ask questions make sure there really worth how much your bidding on.There are many different type of coins and different things the coins are made of it is really a great hobby.

Please make comments on all of my work on what I can do better on them or that you thought they were interesting thanks so much.

Box Turtles

Box turtles are great pets if you find one on the road keep it all you need to do is find an old tire and put him in it or find buy a small pool that is atleast a foot tall it must be hard plastic fill the bottom with sand about an inch deep and get like a foil pie pan put it to ground level so the turtle can get in it you fill it with water so he can drink and swim. Put some logs, rocks and sticks so he has some place to go sleep and hide. Feed him dandelions and fruit like strawberries and apples or veggietables like celery or carrots and lettuce. If you get a tire you must dig about 2 feet deep and put some rocks at the bottom and put chicken wire around the sides burry it and staple the chicken mire to the tire you can fill the inside of the tire with water so it can swim and drink. One more thing you can put your box turtle indoors with a fish tank put a layer of cork at the bottom then on one side put three layers of foil shiny side up then put a heating pad over that you can get those at pet stores then on top of that put a clay water basin and clay tile then all around of the other put sand then put rockes plants and other things. You will need a heat lamp above to keep it warm. You can tell the sex of the turtle bye looking at its eyes the males have red eyes and the females have yellow to green eyes tou can also tell by there tails if you have two of the turtles up together the male has a longer tail and the female has a smaller tail. If you want to breed a pair make sure they are not brother and sister and you have to hibernate the female but you don't have to hibernate the male you can keep him indoors and give him lots of fruit and veggies and he will think its spring all the time.If you want to hibernate your turtles either bye or make a box and put gravel then put dirt then leaves then more dirt and sand put the turtle in the middlethen cover it up with san leaves and dirt drill holes in the side so it can breath then put the lid over it and wait until sprin then put him or her back in the place you have for him/her and give him/her a warm but not hot or cold bath then feed it will still be sleepy for awhile(make sure the box is two feet deep)Or in your tire or something put leaves over it and carpet and it may sleep please note that it is hard for a new born to survive hibernation or any turtle in that mater in captivity.I got most of this info from books that I have no clue what their names are. I hope it works for you they really are great pets.!!!!!!!!!!!!

Steve Irwin Dies

Steve Irwin, the hugely popular Australian television personality and conservationist known as the ``Crocodile Hunter,'' was killed Monday by a stingray while filming off the Great Barrier Reef. He was 44.

Irwin was at Batt Reef, off the remote coast of northeastern Queensland state, shooting a segment for a series called ``Ocean's Deadliest'' when he swam too close to one of the animals, which have a poisonous barb on their tails, his friend and colleague John Stainton said.

``He came on top of the stingray and the stingray's barb went up and into his chest and put a hole into his heart,'' said Stainton, who was on board Irwin's boat at the time.

Crew members aboard the boat, Croc One, called emergency services in the nearest city, Cairns, and administered CPR as they rushed the boat to nearby Low Isle to meet a rescue helicopter. Medical staff pronounced Irwin dead when they arrived a short time later, Stainton said.

Irwin was famous for his enthusiasm for wildlife and his catchword ``Crikey!'' in his television program ``Crocodile Hunter.'' First broadcast in Australia in 1992, the program was picked up by the Discovery network, catapulting Irwin to international celebrity.

He rode his image into a feature film, 2002's ``The Crocodile Hunters: Collision Course'' and developed the wildlife park that his parents opened, Australia Zoo, into a major tourist attraction.

``The world has lost a great wildlife icon, a passionate conservationist and one of the proudest dads on the planet,'' Stainton told reporters in Cairns. ``He died doing what he loved best and left this world in a happy and peaceful state of mind. He would have said, 'Crocs Rule!'''

Prime Minister John Howard, who hand-picked Irwin to attend a gala barbecue to honor President Bush when he visited in 2003, said he was ``shocked and distressed at Steve Irwin's sudden, untimely and freakish death.''

``It's a huge loss to Australia,'' Howard told reporters. ``He was a wonderful character. He was a passionate environmentalist. He brought joy and entertainment and excitement to millions of people.''

Irwin, who made a trademark of hovering dangerously close to untethered crocodiles and leaping on their backs, spoke in rapid-fire bursts with a thick Australian accent and was almost never seen without his uniform of khaki shorts and shirt and heavy boots.

Wild animal expert Jack Hanna, who frequently appears on TV with his subjects, offered praise for Irwin.

``Steve was one of these guys, we thought of him as invincible,'' Hanna, director emeritus of the Columbus (Ohio) Zoo and Aquarium, told ABC's ``Good Morning America'' Monday.

``The guy was incredible. His knowledge was incredible,'' Hanna said. ``Some people that are doing this stuff are actors and that type of thing, but Steve was truly a zoologist, so to speak, a person who knew what he was doing. Yes, he did things a lot of people wouldn't do. I think he knew what he was doing.''

Irwin's ebullience was infectious and Australian officials sought him out for photo opportunities and to promote Australia internationally.

His public image was dented, however, in 2004 when he caused an uproar by holding his infant son in one arm while feeding large crocodiles inside a zoo pen. Irwin claimed at the time there was no danger to the child, and authorities declined to charge Irwin with violating safety regulations.

Later that year, he was accused of getting too close to penguins, a seal and humpback whales in Antarctica while making a documentary. Irwin denied any wrongdoing, and an Australian Environment Department investigation recommended no action be taken against him.

Stingrays have a serrated, toxin-loaded barb, or spine, on the top of their tail. The barb, which can be up to 10 inches long, flexes if a ray is frightened. Stings usually occur to people when they step on or swim too close to a ray and can be excruciatingly painful but are rarely fatal, said University of Queensland marine neuroscientist Shaun Collin. Collin said he suspected Irwin died because the barb pierced under his ribcage and directly into his heart.

``It was extraordinarily bad luck. It's not easy to get spined by a stingray and to be killed by one is very rare,'' Collin said. News of Irwin's death spread quickly, and tributes flowed from all quarters of society.

At Australia Zoo at Beerwah, south Queensland, floral tributes were dropped at the entrance, where a huge fake crocodile gapes. Drivers honked their horns as they passed.

``Steve, from all God's creatures, thank you. Rest in peace,'' was written on a card with a bouquet of native flowers.

``We're all very shocked. I don't know what the zoo will do without him. He's done so much for us, the environment and it's a big loss,'' said Paula Kelly, a local resident and volunteer at the zoo, after dropping off a wreath at the gate.

Stainton said Irwin's American-born wife Terri, from Eugene, Ore., had been informed of his death, and had told their daughter Bindi Sue, 8, and son Bob, who will turn 3 in December.

The couple met when she went on vacation in Australia in 1991 and visited Irwin's Australia Zoo; they were married six months later. Sometimes referred to as the ``Crocodile Huntress,'' she costarred on her husband's television show and in his 2002 movie.
